The Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE) is a R&D unit of Polytechnic of Leiria classified as Excellent in the field of Marine Sciences by an international evaluation panel invited by the Portuguese National Science Foundation. This center focuses its research and technological development activity on marine sciences, more specifically on emerging sectors of the sea economy, such as Marine Biotechnology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, and Marine Food Resources. Additionally, it promotes the dissemination of scientific knowledge in order to support the progress of society and sustainable development policies. MARE-Polytechnic of Leiria has vast expertise in developing scientific projects within the scope of food innovation and will be involved in work package 1 through the creation of new food products containing microalgae and their nutritional characterization.
